CAN EDUCATING GIRLS REALLY HELP THAT MUCH? A DOODLY VIDEO

The answer to this question is an enthusiastic yes.

An enthusiastic yes because of how much educating girls really does help.

I have written about these benefits in other posts and on my main website pages. You can also find detailed discussions in two of my favourite books that cover this topic.

The education of girls has also been adopted as one of the priorities of Michelle Obama’s Girls Opportunity Alliance. This advocacy program is helping to propel this movement forward with the kindness, empathy and power that Michelle Obama brings to her work.

The benefits of girls education has also been investigated scientifically.

You can read the evidence for yourself at the Population Council’s Girl Innovation, Research, and Learning (GIRL) Center.

The GIRL Center has partnered with Echidna Giving to help accelerate progress in achieving gender equality in education by fostering connections, identifying needs, curating evidence, and driving smarter investments.

We have discussed the many benefits of girls education in the video below. This video was created by Hania Azimi, a very creative young talent who is working with me.

Hania created this video using the Doodly animation program. We thought this would be a fun way to learn.

Educating girls means helping insure girls get an early start in school. Also important is helping girls to stay in school. This latter part is especially important when girls approach an age when there is pressure on them to get married.

Room to Read focuses their amazing work on these two important elements. Both are part of the education that girls need to allow them some real options in their lives – options beyond the traditional roles of marriage and caring for men, parents and children.

In addition to providing books, libraries and schools, Room to Read created a program to help keep adolescent and pre-adolescent girls in school. They employ social mobilizers who go out to the villages to visit girls and their parents in their homes. Social mobilizers help encourage girls to return to school, help parents see the benefits and help overcome any obstacles that may get in the way. This program is contagious, as it helps encourage girls from other families who want a better life for their daughters.

I hope you found this a fun video and even learned a few things. Thank you Hania.

Until next time.
